Fundraising for Dolphin Research

Updated: Sep 26, 2019

Ever since we opened our little farm shop in October 2010, we have been actively supporting the amazing research work performed by @kivhdolphinwatch led by the wonderful Phyl and Tony Bartram.

Kangaroo Island / Victor Harbor Dolphin Watch is an award winning community volunteer project in partnership with Whale and Dolphin Conservation, monitoring dolphin populations on Kangaroo Island since 2005 and Victor Harbor since 2011. Developing understandings of custodianship of these fascinating creatures and their habitats, dolphins are monitored unobtrusively, minimising impacts and behavioural change, collecting vital baseline data to globally inform practise.

Initially, our eldest daughter and her friend decided to raise awareness of the Dolphin Watch group at the Penneshaw Farmers Markets by making and selling bookmarks, postcards and other crafts. A collection tin was also put in The Oyster Farm Shop to collect donations from visitors. They presented Tony with a cheque in 2011 and again in 2012.

Since then we have been fundraising for Dolphin Watch through the Farm Shop, including selling the girls handmade crafts, collecting the deposit for recycling the many bottles and cans from the farm shop, charging for plastic bags and re-useable hot/cold bags.

This year we were able to raise $500 for Kangaroo Island-Victor Harbor Dolphin Watch - so you can be sure that our oysters are Dolphin Friendly!
