Freshest oysters on the island!

We harvest oysters daily throughout the season and shuck fresh for retail through the farmshop and local restaurants/caterers.

Select from the harvest of the day and enjoy them natural or topped and chilled or grilled on our Local Produce Tasting Menu!

Our Products

The Oyster Farm Shop is where we show off not only products from our farm, but also iconic aquaculture and sustainable seafood products from the Kangaroo Island region including:

Pacific Oysters

Grown along the wild coastline of Kangaroo Island in the clean, pristine waters of the Southern Ocean, deep water and intertidal farming techniques are used to grow our premium oysters. A salty crisp tasting oyster with cucumber and melon tones.

KI Native Angasi oysters

A new species being farmed in Kangaroo Island Waters are the Native Angasi oysters.  Native to South Australia waters we are helping to reintroduce this native species working with SA Research and Development Institute and other SA oyster growers to research how to grow them for sale.  A mineralised flavour with a flat round shell shape.

Kangaroo Island Abalone and Abalini

Greenlip abalone farmed inland at Smith Bay on the North coast of Kangaroo Island using the clean, fresh pristine waters to grow them to market sizes. KI Abalone exports their product to Japan and other
high end markets. The abalone is frozen using state of the art technology in shell and is available in a range of sizes.

Wild Marron

Marron, also known as a freshwater crayfish, live in the clean freshwater rivers and estuaries on Kangaroo Island and are farmed in fresh water ponds. These crustaceans can be enjoyed grilled or boiled in salty water. The tail and claw meat are eaten.

King George Whiting and Southern Calamari

South Australian waters are well regulated to ensure that fish stocks are protected and that fish will indeed be a food of the future. In conjunction with the Australian Marine Conservation Society (http://www.amcs.org.au/), we selects fish caught from local waters that are considered to be sustainably fished so that you can be sure that you are getting the very best seafood without impacting on our pristine marine environment.

Gather up a feast to cook up back at your accommodation using our Eat Like an Islander Recipe Cards or enjoy our Local Produce Tasting Menu!

Fresh/Frozen Range

Most of our products are available to buy fresh/frozen. We have selected our product range based on whether they can be frozen and thawed without losing their quality.

Best freeze techniques are used to ensure the quality of all of our frozen products.  As such, our range is limited but rest assured that all our produce is brought in fresh and frozen on the day after the catch date or on the boats the day it is caught.

This means that instead of having fresh produce sitting in a fridge for days losing quality, we only have quality frozen products for retail.

Eat Like an Islander!

Our Local Produce Tasting Menu is a share plate concept which allows you and your friends/family to experience our local produce in a friendly, relaxing funky interpretive environment in the picturesque town of American River.

Our Farmshop Aquaplatter is a great way to taste all the aqua-produce from the island including Marron or King George Whiting, abalone and of course our Oysters.

The Oyster Farm Shop is not a restaurant, fish and chip shop or a fish monger – we don’t even have a deep fryer!

It’s a funky little farm gate where we have deliberately set a menu based on fresh from ocean, best local product, grilled simply to allow visitors to our island to experience the beautiful island produce. A delicious and healthy experience!

Drink Like an Islander!

Your share plates can be complemented with local Drunken Drone ale, Kangaroo Island Ciders and selected Kangaroo Island wines, South Australian made soft drinks by Grubb and fruit juices by Mountain Fresh and of course KI Rainwater!  Tea and coffee is also available (no Coke or Fanta served here!).

Recipes Cards

We can even provide product recipe cards to help you cook like a Masterchef! Ask in store.
